Food Findings: The La Tortilla Factory Low Carb / High Fiber Tortillas Product Review

Food Findings Review:  The La Tortilla Factory Low Carb/High Fiber Tortillas We have been faithful consumers (actually most days we have at least 2 of these wraps) of The La Tortilla Factory Low Carb/High Fiber Tortillas.  These tortillas are only 80 Calories per wrap and are cholesterol-free, contain no saturated fats, trans fat or hydrogenated oils.   Therefore they are perfect for the health conscious and dieters (especially people who are following a low carbohydrate, low calorie and lower glycemic index foods – such as diabetics).   These tortillas are becoming so popular that they are being profiled in cookbooks (such as Hungry Girl’s 200 under 200), magazines (such as Men’s Health, Women’s Health…etc) and books for diabetics and dieters (such as Fat to Skinny, Eat This Not That! Supermarket Survival Guide: The No-Diet Weight by David Zinczenko and Matt Goulding..etc).  We use the wraps for all of our meals – breakfast (Egg Burritos), lunch (Turkey, Ham, Chicken Wraps..etc) and dinner(Pizzas..etc) although can be also used for snacks (you just have to get creative). Recommended Recipe –  only 195 calories per serving: Italian Pizza – you can substitute any of the vegetables for your favorites but here’s a list of ours: 1 Low Carb/High Fiber Tortillas – 80 calories 28 grams of Lifetime FatFree Cheese – 40 calories 84 grams of roma tomatoes – 15 calories 155 grams of mushrooms – 40 calories 40 grams of red peppers – 10 calories 24 grams of red onions – 10 calories Garlic Fresh Herbs such as Basil, Italian Parsley…etc Dried Herbs  such as Italian, Garlic Salt, Pepper…etc ½ cup of Apple Cider Vinegar (although you can use any type of vinegar) Prep work: Mix garlic salt, pepper, apple cider vinegar and fresh herbs in bowl.  Marinate your tomatoes with ¼ of mixture for about 1 hr before cooking.   Preheat oven to 450 degrees.  If you have a stone pizza block please use this as it will help make the tortilla crisp.  About 5 Minutes before Cooking marinate the remainder of the vegetables. Cooking (about 15 Minutes): Sauté mushrooms, peppers, onions and garlic on stove-top for about 5 minutes. Make sure all of the liquid is evaporated.  Once they are finished put aside and cover.  Then add your tomatoes (make sure you disregard the remaining marinade b/c it will make the tortilla soggy) to your tortilla.  Place tortilla with tomatoes in oven for about 5-7 minutes (depends on your stove although you will want to make sure tortilla is getting crisp on the bottom.  Then once it is crisp you can now add the remaining vegetables and top with cheese along with any additional seasonings/herbs.  Cook again for about 3-5 minutes or until you see the cheese melted.   Then it’s time to Enjoy!  We will continue to post some of our favorite recipes with La Tortilla Factory although please share your recipes / ideas too!

I love tortillas. They are so incredibly delicious and easy to make. You can put anything in it too! As a matter of fact, in my household, it has almost entirely replaced bread. It’s hard to actually get the “wrapping” action with a piece of bread and that’s the fun part!

Thanks for your review of my recent blog post! Yes, I agree, these tortillas are amazing. Some of my favorite ways to use them include making egg white omelets with tons of veggies and feta cheese. I like making taco wraps with ground turkey breast, shredded lettuce and fresh salsa as well. I spread a little natural almond butter and a sprinkle of cinnamon for a tasty afternoon snack. They are amazing with a little marinara sauce, a sprinkly of feta cheese and tons of fresh basil out of the garden. I also have spread them with a little 0% greek yogurt, sprinkle with cumin, chopped olives, feta cheese, cherry tomatoes and fresh basil for a greek twist. One last idea is to spread a little 0% greek yogurt mixed with a little sugar free apricot jam on it and roll it up for a quick to-go snack. Really, the ideas are endless! Thanks again! Stef
